Meet Mrs. Houdek

First grade has always been one of my favorite grade levels and it's mainly due to my own personal first grade memories. I absolutely loved my first grade teacher and I remember all of the fun, excitement, and learning that took place that year. From learning to read, making homemade applesauce, sharing time, and making new friends these experiences made first grade memorable! I hope to pass on that excitement this year to my class. I have been teaching for 16 years, 9 years as a first grade teacher. I went to college at Moorhead State University and I also have received my Master's in Teaching and Learning through St. Mary's University. This is my tenth year at Jordan Elementary School. I live in Jordan with my family.

We will be very busy in first grade reading, writing, and learning our math curriculum. We will also be exploring different topics in science by focusing on the STEAM model.  This is very hands on and exciting! We will be going to p.e., music, art, media, and library each week. First grade is a very BIG year! I look forward to learning and growing with your child. I will do my best to make this year successful for all of my students.

Not only will we be focusing on academics, we will be working on making friends and how to work together in our classroom community. To help make our classroom a community, we will focus on being respectful, responsible, and safe. We will focus on our PBIS expectations to help us have a wonderful year! Helping your child become a more independent, caring, respectful learner is an important goal of mine. Together we will learn to become a classroom community where learning can take place for all students!
